Soon, the story about the dog and its young owner who together saved the mine, and the dog’s extraordinary achievement of walking home all the way from Scotland, is taken up by the national press. 25 – Welcome Back, Lassie
A farmers couple provided shelter to Lassie, and she now resumes her journey back home. Meanwhile, everyone is doing their best at Wellington Mine to find a new coal deposit. John wakes up from a bad dream – only to realize it has become reality: Duke Radling, the mine owner, agreed to his request for a new investigation of the mine in order to prevent a shutdown, but in return he wants to own Lassie! 22 – John’s Decision. Protect the Mine!
The mine ran out of coal and shut down is imminent. Some workers and their families already left Greenall Bridge in search of new jobs. John’s father anxiously hopes to find a big coal deposit and save the livelihoods of the villagers. The mine owner, however, is not easily convinced to allow more investigation. Will John and Lassie change his mind?
